The problem of fake credentials in India

Project Overview : IIT Kanpur

“Engineering for Rs 75,000, Law Certificate for Rs 2 Lakh from a renowned university”. This is what a news channel published after their sting operation back in 2019.

Another similar fraud became viral in February 2021–Manav Bharti University (MBU) reportedly sold 36,000 fake degrees over 11 years for prices ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 rupees.   

These headlines are common but it has a severe impact on our overall educational ecosystem

During it's 54th convocation in the year 2021, IIT Kanpur created history by becoming the first institute in India to issue digital degrees powered by blockchain technology.

This project was launched by our Honourable PM Shree Narendra Modi where he issued 1723 degrees to students graduating within Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD degree programs

In this digital era, the adoption of this technology is going to provide more value, independence and convenience to our students throughout their lives.
